THÉÂTRE DES CHAMPS-ELYSÉES – A LEGACY OF ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE
THÉÂTRE DES CHAMPS-ELYSÉES – A LEGACY OF ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE
The Théâtre des Champs-Elysées is a cultural institution and one of the most emblematic Parisian theatres. Known for its eclectic and high-level artistic programs (operas, symphonic concerts, recitals, ballet), the Maison de Musique is located at 15 Avenue Montaigne.
Alongside the fashion houses, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées contributes to the global renown of the one of the world’s most beautiful avenues through the elegance of the prêt-à-porter fashion and the culture of performing arts.
This story began in 1906, when Gabriel Astruc envisioned the construction of a theatre dedicated to music in all its forms. Designed by the Belgian architect Henry Van de Velde and the French Perret brothers, the building was a pioneering architectural achievement, marking the first use of reinforced concrete for a cultural venue in Paris.
Artists left an enduring imprint on the Théâtre: Maurice Denis adorned the dome with figures blending historical personalities and characters drawn from the great works of the performing arts, while Antoine Bourdelle created the bas-reliefs of the façade and the painted decorations of the corridors inspired by Greek mythology. Together, they contributed to shaping the unique artistic identity of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.
Since its inauguration in 1913, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées has remained faithful to a tradition of artistic excellence, welcoming the greatest performers. From Igor Stravinsky, who marked its opening with The Rite of Spring, to Joséphine Baker, whose Paris debut here launched her international career – whose centennial was celebrated in 2025, generations of exceptional artists have shaped its history, a legacy that continues to this day through a program of the highest international standard.
To sustain this tradition of excellence and ensure the continued vitality of the performing arts, private support plays a vital role. Through the Fondation of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and its International Circle, we can support artistic creation, educational initiatives, and the international reach of the Théâtre, while making live performance accessible to a wider audience.
We would be honoured to welcome you among our fellows and look forward to the opportunity to meet you in person, to share our vision, and to present our projects in greater detail.
