Handicap International was founded in 1982 in the Khao I Dang camp, where 160,000 survivors of the Khmer Rouge regime had found refuge. Among them were 6,000 victims of anti-personnel mines!Outraged by their suffering, a group of young doctors came up with a response to orthopedic needs in emergency situations that did not exist in humanitarian aid at the time. This is how HI was born.

HI provides aid to vulnerable populations, particularly people with disabilities, wherever it is needed in the world. The association meets their essential and specific needs, improves their living conditions and helps them to integrate into society. In 2022, HI led 466 projects in 60 different countries.

THE CAUSE WE SUPPORT

Help put 2000 lives back on their feet at the Kampong Cham Rehabilitation Centre (Cambodia)! Through the Kampong Cham rehabilitation centre programme in Cambodia, HI aims to give all under privileged people with disabilities access to quality health and rehabilitation services, enable them to “stand back up on their own two feet” and live in dignity. The causes of disability are multiple: originally due to anti-personnel mines, recent years have been marked by the rise of certain pathologies such as poliomyelitis and clubfoot, and above all the dramatic rise in the number of road accidents.

Through the Kampong Cham rehabilitation centre, HI supports more than 2,000 patients a year, with half of whom are children. Since 2002, the number of patients has quadrupled.

Target amount for pledge: HK$200,000 for the support and care of eight people
