The Arcanys Early Learning Foundation (AELF) is a nonprofit organisation based in the Philippines dedicated to empowering parents to nurture their children’s potential during the crucial early childhood development years. Since 2012, AELF has been advocating for early math and logic development, offering free parent-child math coaching to more than 5,000 Filipino families. The foundation’s mission is simple yet transformative; to ensure that every child, regardless of background or socioeconomic status, has equal opportunity to thrive through early childhood education. In Cebu City’s overcrowded slums education is not a priority, as their priority is to earn money to feed and sustain their family; violence, drugs, prostitution, and forced labor are part of many children’s everyday lives. This is where AELF intervenes by giving underprivileged, vulnerable children a safe and conducive learning environment within the community, actively involving their parents in the process. AELF focuses on children aged 3 to 5, introducing early math and logic skills—tools that help open doors to brighter futures.
Through AELF’s 3 to 6-month program, children learn number identification, object counting, rote counting, numerical comparison, missing numbers, and simple addition. AELF implements the ChildUp Early education model based on decades of practical, positive parenting experience in real life situations and families, backed by 21st-century international scientific research conducted in partnership with the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
THE CAUSE WE SUPPORT
AELF’s programmes grant the children from Cebu City’s low-income communities not just a brighter future in academics, but as well as in their personal, social, and professional lives. Parents have also become early education ambassadors in the community by participating in the program, a key factor to bringing sustainable change. Since 2012, 5,000 families have benefitted from AELF’s programs, contributing to creating a community-driven, lasting impact in low-income communities where education is often out of reach. Through Fondation de France Asia, Hong Kong-based donors have the opportunity to create lasting, tangible change for underprivileged Filipino children by contributing to AELF’s mission and supporting AELF’s programs, providing quality early childhood education one child at a time.
