1001FONTAINES – SUSTAINABLE ACCESS TO SAFE DRINKING WATER
1001fontaines is an NGO that provides safe drinking water services every day to underserved populations in Africa and Asia.
The NGO offers an innovative solution that guarantees water quality at the point of consumption, thanks to efficient purification systems and a distribution model using refillable 20-liter bottles sold at an affordable price.
Sustainability is at the heart of its work: they develop the projects with local organisations and ensure their financial viability through hybrid economic models. They also engage communities and authorities to guarantee the local anchoring and long-term sustainability of our projects.
In 20 years, more than one million people have adopted the services in Cambodia, Madagascar, Bangladesh, and soon in Nepal. The aim is to provide 2 million people with access to safe drinking water by 2030.
THE CAUSE WE SUPPORT
1. Water in School program in Cambodia
1001fontaines seeks to ensure daily delivery of free safe drinking water to 1,000+ rural primary schools which do not currently have access to safe water, thanks to a network of small enterprises in charge of water purification and bottling in 20L refillable containers. This represents 370,000 underprivileged children benefiting from safe drinking water on every school day during the 2025-2026 Cambodian school year. For these children, this means improved health and educational outcomes thanks to the daily consumption of safe drinking water.
HKD 6,000 = 1 year of safe drinking water for 1 primary school
2. Expanding safe drinking water access in Nepal
1001fontaines intends to set up 2 water purification and distribution plants in rural Nepal and build capacities of local entrepreneurs to manage the plants and sustainably serve vulnerable communities.
The project intends to provide 20,000 economically disadvantaged people with safe drinking water, and to create 2 sustainable micro-enterprises. In the long term, it will also set the standards to replicate this approach across the country, ultimately serving 1 million people.
HKD 5.5M = total budget for a 2-year pilot phase (2026-2027)
